The Pittsburgh Steelers erred on the side of caution with quarterback Russell Wilson on Friday, opting to keep him out of practice for a second consecutive day due to a minor calf injury.

During a press conference at training camp in Latrobe, Pa., Wilson revealed that he had \"tweaked\" his calf while participating in a sled-push drill earlier in the week.

Despite the setback, Wilson remained optimistic, telling reporters, \"The good news is that I feel good. We'll get there.\"

According to Coach Mike Tomlin, the decision to give first-team reps to Justin Fields was made in order to prevent Wilson's minor injury from becoming a major one.

Wilson, who is 35 years old, was able to do some individual work on the side, he confirmed.

During the offseason, the Steelers made the decision to move on from starter Kenny Pickett and instead acquired Wilson and Fields to fill the quarterback position.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Tomlin reiterated that Wilson, a Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, would be the team's starting QB over Fields, who is 25 years old and was the first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2021.

The Steelers' first preseason game is scheduled for August 9 at home against the Houston Texans. They will then open the regular season on September 8 on the road against quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons.
