Week 6 MNF: Jets-Bills Preview, Best Bet
Unimpressive could be used to summarize the New York Jets' performance in the first five games of the 2024 regular season. However, a win against the Bills on Monday night could potentially put them in first place in the AFC East.
The Jets' 2-3 start led to the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and the promotion of defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as the interim coach. Ulbrich also demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and handed play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Todd Downing.
It remains to be seen if these changes will have a significant impact, especially considering the reliance on Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Bills had a better start to their season with three consecutive wins, but have since lost two games in a row. However, their early success may have been due to a relatively easy schedule against sub-.500 teams.
Defensively, the Jets will be a challenge for the Bills, as they are ranked first in pass coverage by Pro Football Focus. On the other hand, Bills quarterback Josh Allen has struggled with accuracy and his receivers have had a high percentage of dropped passes.
The Jets' dysfunction can also be attributed to Rodgers, who has had a significant influence on the team since his arrival. There are even reports that he contacted the Jets owner to prevent the firing of his friend and former teammate, Nathaniel Hackett.
The Jets' new play-caller, Todd Downing, has addressed the team's struggling rushing attack, but has not mentioned the underperforming quarterback. Unless there are significant changes, the Jets' offense will likely continue to rely on their strong defense.
