"Jets' Defensive Coordinator Position: Steve Wilks and Chris Harris Under Consideration in Interviews"
According to various media sources, the New York Jets will be interviewing Steve Wilks and Chris Harris on Wednesday for the role of defensive coordinator.
The newly appointed Jets head coach, Aaron Glenn, has stated that he will not be the team's defensive play caller.
Wilks, aged 55, previously held the position of defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers during the 2023 season. He was let go shortly after the team's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
He also has a record of 9-19 as a head coach with the Arizona Cardinals (2018) and Carolina Panthers (2022), where he served as an interim. Wilks has also worked as a defensive coordinator for the Panthers in 2017 and the Cleveland Browns in 2019.
Harris, aged 42, was the cornerbacks coach and defensive pass game coordinator for the Tennessee Titans in 2024. However, his contract expired at the end of the season and the team announced that he would not be returning.
During his eight seasons with four different teams, Harris recorded 16 interceptions in 101 games (88 starts). He was drafted in the sixth round by the Chicago Bears in 2005 and last played in 2012.
Reports suggest that Wilks is the frontrunner for the job.
Glenn was officially introduced as the Jets' head coach on Monday.
