The Washington Commanders' rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, sustained a rib injury during Sunday's victory against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Dan Quinn on Monday.

Quinn stated that the injury is not severe and will not keep Daniels out for an extended period of time.

Daniels' status is currently listed as "week-to-week," with the team monitoring his progress and taking precautions to ensure his recovery.

Quinn confirmed that the 23-year-old quarterback was hurt when he fell awkwardly after a 46-yard run on the team's first offensive play. Despite staying in the game to complete the drive, Daniels was ultimately replaced by veteran Marcus Mariota for the remainder of the game.

The Commanders, who now hold a record of 5-2, won the game 40-7. Daniels finished with three rushes for 50 yards and completed both of his pass attempts for a total of 6 yards.

Quinn emphasized that Daniels will not return to the field until he has fully recovered.

"We will not skip any steps in his recovery process. It is crucial that we get it right," Quinn said. "He is a unique player and we want to ensure that he can perform at his best, with all of his abilities, including movement and throwing."

Daniels has started all seven games this season and has impressive stats, completing 127 of 168 passes for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also has 66 rushing attempts for 372 yards and four touchdowns, making him a strong contender for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

The Commanders selected Daniels as the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, following last season's Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU. The top pick, quarterback Caleb Williams of Southern California, was chosen by the Chicago Bears (4-2), who will face the Commanders this coming Sunday.
