Falcons Consider Interim Jets Coach Jeff Ulbrich for Defensive Coordinator Role
The Atlanta Falcons held a virtual meeting with interim coach Jeff Ulbrich of the New York Jets on Wednesday, as they search for a new defensive coordinator.
Ulbrich, who also served as defensive coordinator, took over the Jets after the firing of coach Robert Saleh, who had a record of 2-3 at the time. Under Ulbrich's leadership, the Jets went 3-9.
Previously, Ulbrich spent six seasons (2015-20) with the Falcons, where he primarily coached linebackers. However, he also held the roles of assistant head coach and interim defensive coordinator during the 2020 season.
The Falcons are in need of a new defensive coordinator after parting ways with Jimmy Lake following a disappointing 8-9 season.
Ulbrich, who is 47 years old, also interviewed for the Jets' head coaching position on Monday.
Before transitioning into coaching, Ulbrich played for the San Francisco 49ers for 10 seasons (2000-2009).
