Excitement Builds Among Commanders for CB Marshon Lattimore, Potential Delay in Debut
Cornerback Marshon Lattimore spent his first day with the Washington Commanders acquainting himself with the training staff.
Lattimore, obtained for three draft picks from the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, has been dealing with a hamstring injury that may delay his debut in the Washington secondary.
General manager Adam Peters stated that Lattimore is officially day-to-day, but he couldn't hide the Commanders' perspective on the importance of finalizing the deal for the four-time Pro Bowler.
"What does Marshon mean? He's a competitor," Peters said. "We're adding a true fierce competitor to a group of individuals who relish in fighting and battling. To me, that's an extension of competition, to say that we won't miss an opportunity to add a competitor to our team."
Head coach Dan Quinn mentioned that the NFC East-leading Commanders (7-2) are prepared to introduce Lattimore when he's physically ready. He observed part of practice with defensive passing game coordinator Jason Simmons.
"It's a fantastic situation for me to be in," said Lattimore, 28. "I'm thrilled for it."
Lattimore stated that he felt at ease walking into the Washington locker room and reconnecting with former Buckeyes, including wide receiver Noah Brown, who was in the same Ohio State recruiting class, and wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Lattimore has known McLaurin since he was 17 years old.
Taking a cue from the movie "Jerry Maguire," Quinn stated that Lattimore "had me at hello."
"He embodies the right qualities, he has an attitude to battle, we're extremely excited to have him here," Quinn said.
Washington will host the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) on Sunday afternoon.
