Despite Restrictions, 49ers Quarterback Brock Purdy Continues to Battle Aching Shoulder
Brock Purdy took part in the beginning of Thursday's practice with the 49ers, but the San Francisco starting quarterback was absent for most of the session, raising doubts about his ability to play against Green Bay on Sunday.
Purdy is currently dealing with a shoulder injury, and the 49ers may also be without left tackle Trent Williams and Nick Bosa due to injuries. Bosa was unable to participate in Thursday's practice due to an oblique injury, while Williams also did not suit up. Last week, Williams played through an ankle injury despite being listed as questionable.
Purdy's usual post-practice media session on Thursday was postponed until Friday, as the 49ers did not make any quarterbacks available. If Purdy is unable to play against the Packers, Kyle Allen will step in as the starter.
According to run game coordinator Chris Foerster, the 49ers' current record of 5-5 is not where they want to be, but it is not solely due to injuries. Foerster believes that their inability to win close games is the main issue.
\"With seven games left, there is still a lot of time for things to change,\" Foerster stated. \"Last year, our record was 12-5. I was also part of a 13-win team that was not as strong as last year's team.\"
Whether Purdy is able to play or not, Foerster emphasized the importance of not turning the ball over to a defense that has already forced 19 takeaways this season. The 49ers have given up the ball 13 times so far.
