"Contract Dispute Causes Absence of 49ers' Star Left Tackle Trent Williams"

Trent Williams, 49ers' Top Left Tackle, Absent Due to Contract Disputes

The San Francisco 49ers' star left tackle, Trent Williams, is currently holding out of training camp due to contract disputes, according to coach Kyle Shanahan's statement on Wednesday.

Williams, who has been selected to the Pro Bowl 11 times, is owed a total of $74.76 million over the next three years, but none of this money is guaranteed. He is currently in the fourth year of a six-year, $138.06 million contract.

Shanahan expressed his disappointment in Williams' absence, but also acknowledged that it was a possibility. He remains confident that the situation will be resolved and Williams will return to the team soon. He also believes that missing a few practices won't have a significant impact on Williams' performance.

The 36-year-old Williams has been named first-team All-Pro for the past three seasons. He has been with the 49ers for five years, after spending his first nine seasons with the Washington Football Team.

Williams is set to earn $20.05 million this season, with an additional $750,000 in game-day roster bonuses. His salary will increase to $22.5 million next year and $32.21 million in 2026.

With an average annual salary of $23.010 million, Williams currently ranks fourth among all NFL left tackles. However, he was bumped down a spot on Tuesday when Christian Darrisaw of the Minnesota Vikings signed a four-year, $113 million extension, making him the highest-paid tackle in the league with an average of $28.25 million per season.

Shanahan did not want to delve into the details of Williams' contract situation, stating that there are many factors at play.

"I'm not going to discuss the personal aspects of the contract," Shanahan said.
