Chargers Reach Agreement with Quarterback Trey Lance
The Los Angeles Chargers have officially announced on Friday that they have reached an agreement with quarterback Trey Lance.
As reported by various sources, the contract is for a one-year period and is valued at a maximum of $6.2 million.
Lance is expected to serve as the third-string quarterback behind starting player Justin Herbert and experienced backup Taylor Heinicke.
The San Francisco 49ers selected Lance as the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
During the 2021 season, he appeared in six games, starting in two, and threw for a total of 603 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.
However, Lance's season was cut short in 2022 due to an ankle injury in Week 2. Later on, Brock Purdy solidified his position as the 49ers' starting quarterback.
In 2023, Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys but did not have any playing time. He only played in four games last season and started in one, completing 20 out of 34 passes for 244 yards against the Washington Commanders in Week 18.
Next month, Lance will turn 25 years old. In his 12 career games (five starts), he has thrown for 1,063 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has also rushed for 276 yards and scored one touchdown.
Before joining the NFL, Lance played for the FCS powerhouse North Dakota State.
