"Buccaneers' Wide Receiver Mike Evans Expected to Make Comeback from Hamstring Injury"
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans took part in portions of practice on Wednesday and intends to play on Sunday for the first time since injuring his hamstring in Week 7.
Both Evans and Chris Godwin (ankle) sustained injuries during the same 41-31 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens on October 21. Unfortunately, Godwin, who currently leads the team with 50 receptions, will be out for the remainder of the season.
Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield commented that Evans looked strong and is optimistic about his chances of returning to the lineup this week as they face the New York Giants (2-8).
\"As you all know, Mike is a true professional. He will do everything in his power to get back on the field and fight for this team as we take it one game at a time,\" Mayfield stated on Wednesday.
Evans will resume his role as the team's top receiver with six touchdown catches. However, his streak of 1,000-yard seasons, which has lasted for 10 years, is now at risk.
With only 336 yards in 2024, he will need to average 95 yards per game in the final seven games to maintain his streak.
\"The streak is important to us, but ultimately, he cares about winning,\" Mayfield explained. \"He is a vital part of this offense, so I believe that will come naturally. However, I have been in situations where you try to force the ball to a specific player, and that is not how our offense operates.\"
