"Breaking News: Vikings Cornerback Mekhi Blackmon Suffers ACL Tear"

The first practice of the summer for the Minnesota Vikings proved to be costly, as reports from multiple media outlets stated that cornerback Mekhi Blackmon tore his anterior cruciate ligament on Wednesday.

According to ESPN, Blackmon sustained the injury during a seven-on-seven drill.

The 25-year-old, who played for the University of Southern California, was considered a top contender for the Vikings' third cornerback position this season, following the tragic death of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson in a car accident on July 6.

Minnesota drafted Blackmon in the third round of the 2023 draft. He played in 15 games for the team last year, starting in three of them. Blackmon recorded 41 tackles, eight passes defensed, one interception, and one fumble recovery.

The Vikings' starting cornerbacks are Shaquill Griffin and Byron Murphy Jr. The backups include Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans, along with Duke Shelley, who signed with Minnesota on Tuesday. Shelley played 11 games for the Vikings in 2022 before playing 11 games for the Los Angeles Rams last year.
