"Announcement: Wes Welker becomes part of Commanders' coaching team"
Ex-NFL star receiver Wes Welker will be joining the coaching staff of the Washington Commanders, according to a report by ESPN on Monday.
The 43-year-old Welker was let go by the Miami Dolphins in January after serving as their wide receivers coach and pass game specialist for three seasons. He began his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans in 2017 and later worked as a receivers coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 2019 to 2021.
During his playing days, Welker was a five-time Pro Bowler for the New England Patriots and led the league in receptions on three occasions.
Over the course of his 12-year NFL career, Welker recorded 903 catches for 9,924 yards and 50 touchdowns in 175 games (102 starts) for the San Diego Chargers (2004), Miami Dolphins (2004-2006), New England Patriots (2007-2012), Denver Broncos (2013-2014), and St. Louis Rams (2015).
