"Announcement: Texans to ink QB Davis Mills until 2025"
Agreement has been reached between the Houston Texans and backup quarterback Davis Mills on a one-year extension that will cover the 2025 season, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
The deal also includes incentives based on playing time, as reported by NFL Network. Mills will serve as the backup to C.J. Stroud, who was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year in the previous season.
Mills was selected by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and was thrust into the starting role as a rookie due to Deshaun Watson's legal issues that year. He once again took over as the starter in 2022 after Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
During his time as a starter, Mills won five out of 26 games. Stroud, who was drafted second overall in 2023, became the starter and Mills appeared in six games last season.
In 34 games, 25-year-old Mills has completed 62.8 percent of his pass attempts for 5,955 yards, with 35 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. He threw the most interceptions in the NFL in 2022 with 15.
