"Announcement: Saints Wide Receiver Rashid Shaheed (knee) Ruled Out for Rest of Season Following Surgery"

The New Orleans Saints have lost wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for the remainder of the season following meniscus surgery on Thursday, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network.

Shaheed's doctors have determined that the 26-year-old's meniscus requires a full repair rather than a simple "trim." As a result, Shaheed will be placed on injured reserve and is expected to be out for four to six months while he recovers, per ESPN.

Shaheed had played in the first six games of the season for the Saints, starting five and making 20 catches. He was on the field for 81 percent of the offensive snaps in Sunday's 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and news of his injury only came to light after the game.

The wide receiver leads the Saints in targets (41), yards (349), and touchdown receptions (three). He is also currently averaging a league-best 15.9 yards per punt return and 28.5 yards per kick return, ranking him seventh in the NFL. In the loss to the Bucs, Shaheed even returned a punt for a touchdown.

Over the course of his three seasons in the NFL, all with the Saints, Shaheed has recorded 94 receptions for 1,556 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has also scored one rushing touchdown and two punt return touchdowns.

In addition to Shaheed, the Saints will also be without starting wide receiver Chris Olave for their upcoming game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday, as he is sidelined with a concussion.
