The Carolina Panthers are replacing former top pick Bryce Young with Andy Dalton as starting quarterback, according to reports from NFL Network and ESPN on Monday.

Under new head coach Dave Canales, the Panthers (0-2) have only scored a total of 13 points in their first two games. Young had a disappointing performance in Sunday's 26-3 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, throwing for only 84 yards on 26 pass attempts and an interception.

According to ESPN, Young is just the third player in the last 20 seasons to have an average of 4 or fewer yards per pass play in four consecutive starts. He has yet to score a touchdown and has thrown three interceptions in two games this season.

Despite Canales' initial decision to keep Young as the starter for Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders (1-1), he changed his mind less than 24 hours later.

At 36 years old, Dalton is a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback with a career record of 83-78-2 in 14 seasons. He has been the backup to Young, who is 23 years old, for the past two seasons in Carolina.

Throughout his career with five different teams, Dalton has thrown for 38,511 yards and 246 touchdowns with 144 interceptions. He is most known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals (2011-2019), who drafted him in the second round in 2011.
