Analysis: Vikings Linebacker Blake Cashman (turf toe) Anticipated to Miss Game Against Lions
Minnesota Vikings linebacker Blake Cashman is anticipated to be absent from Sunday's game at home against the Detroit Lions and may have an extended absence due to turf toe, according to a report from the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Wednesday.
Cashman, who is 28 years old, leads the Vikings (5-0) with 40 tackles and has played 334 defensive snaps (94 percent). He has started all five games and has recorded two tackles for loss, one sack, four quarterback hits, and five passes defensed.
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell stated on Wednesday that Cashman sustained the toe injury during the team's win over the New York Jets in London on October 6. The team had a bye week last week. O'Connell does not believe that Cashman will need to be placed on the injured reserve list.

"He seemed to just have some discomfort after leaving London, and during the bye week we determined that it was turf toe," O'Connell said. "He'll be evaluated on a day-to-day, week-to-week basis as he manages the injury. We don't have a clear timeline yet, but we don't think it will be a long-term issue."
Cashman signed a three-year deal with the Vikings in March as a free agent, after starting 13 of 14 games for the Houston Texans in 2023 and recording a career-high 106 tackles. He played 30 games for the Texans over two seasons (2022-23) after being limited to 14 games in three seasons (2019-21) with the Jets due to injuries.
The Jets selected Cashman in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft from the University of Minnesota. A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Cashman has accumulated 221 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, 13 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries, and one interception in 49 games (26 starts) throughout his career.
