Utah's Cam Rising started as the quarterback for Saturday's game against Baylor, but will now be watching from the sidelines in regular clothes after injuring his right hand and leaving the game towards the end of the second quarter.

According to reports, the injury occurred when Rising was pushed into a group of water coolers on the Baylor sideline. He left the game and was later seen on the sidelines with tape holding together his ring finger and middle finger on his right hand.

Before the injury, Rising had scored two touchdowns on 8-of-14 passes for 92 yards, helping the No. 11 Utes take a 23-0 lead. As of now, Baylor has scored 12 unanswered points.

Rising was replaced by true freshman Isaac Wilson, who happens to be the younger brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson.

Rising, a seventh-year senior, is making a comeback from a major knee injury he suffered in the 2023 Rose Bowl, which kept him out for the entire last season.

His return was expected to give Utah a boost in their chances of winning the conference title in their first year in the Big 12. Rising had thrown for a total of 46 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards, leading Utah to identical 10-4 records and Pac-12 titles in 2021 and 2022.
