Tragic Car Crash Claims the Life of Pitt Cornerback Mason Alexander

Tragic news struck the Pittsburgh community on Saturday night as 18-year-old freshman cornerback Mason Alexander passed away in a car accident in his hometown of Fishers, Ind.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Alexander was a passenger in a 2016 BMW when the driver attempted to overtake another car. In an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle, the BMW veered off the road and collided with a tree, resulting in Alexander's death at the scene.

Alexander, who was a highly anticipated member of Pitt's recruiting class, was expected to join the team for spring practice this month.

In a statement, Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi expressed his shock and sadness over the sudden loss of Alexander. He also shared that Alexander had recently enrolled at Pitt in January after graduating early from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Indiana. Despite his short time at Pitt, Alexander had already made a positive impact on the team and was excited to be a part of the Panther family.

Narduzzi added that Alexander will always be remembered as a Panther and that the team's thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
