The Sugar Bowl will proceed as planned on Wednesday evening amidst heightened security measures following the fatal truck attack in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick has confirmed that there will be an increased police presence at the Superdome for the College Football Playoff game between Georgia and Notre Dame.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a driver with the intention of causing chaos and destruction drove his pickup truck at high speeds through the crowds on Bourbon Street, resulting in the death of 10 people and injuries to at least 35, according to Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick stated, "It was a deliberate act. This individual was attempting to run over as many people as possible."

Reports have indicated that explosive devices were discovered at the scene, and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has labeled the incident as a "terrorist attack." The FBI is currently investigating it as an act of terrorism.

Authorities have revealed that the male suspect exited his truck with an assault rifle and opened fire on police officers before being killed in a shootout. At least two officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire. The suspect's identity has not yet been released.

The CFP quarterfinal game between the No. 2 seed Bulldogs (11-2) and No. 7 Fighting Irish (12-1) is scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night.
