'SMU Quarterback Kevin Jennings Receives Approval for Highly-Anticipated Matchup Against Pitt Ranked in the Top 20'
SMU signal-caller Kevin Jennings has received medical clearance and will take the field on Saturday night for the No. 20 Mustangs as they face off against No. 18 Pittsburgh in Dallas.
Jennings had previously been listed as questionable due to an unspecified injury sustained during last Saturday's win against Duke. However, coach Rhett Lashlee confirmed to ESPN on Friday that the sophomore had been given the green light late in the week.
Jennings has been a key factor in SMU's five consecutive victories, with the team averaging an impressive 42.0 points per game during this streak.
So far this season, Jennings has completed 110 of 171 passes (64.3 percent) for 1,594 yards and 10 touchdowns, with five interceptions. He has also rushed 67 times for 321 yards and three touchdowns.
The quarterback currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in passing yards per completion (14.49) and ranks second in yards per attempt (9.32).
Pitt (7-0, 3-0) also faced their own quarterback dilemma, as starter Eli Holstein was listed as questionable due to an undisclosed injury. However, coach Pat Narduzzi announced on his radio show on Wednesday that Holstein has been cleared to play.
