Oklahoma State Appoints Todd Grantham as Defensive Leader
Oklahoma State University has hired Todd Grantham, a senior advisor for the New Orleans Saints and former defensive line coach, to take on the role of defensive coordinator. This was confirmed by the Saints on Monday.
Interim coach Darren Rizzi announced that Grantham would not be completing the regular season with the Saints. Instead, he will be leaving the team on Tuesday to start his new job as the defensive coordinator in Stillwater. Grantham was moved from his position as defensive line coach to senior advisor after the Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen last month.
Grantham, who is 58 years old, has a lengthy career as a defensive assistant. He started out as a defensive line coach at Virginia Tech from 1990-1995. After coaching at Michigan State, he moved on to the NFL and eventually became the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns from 2005-2007.
He has also held the title of defensive coordinator at various colleges, including Georgia (2010-2013), Louisville (2014-2016), Mississippi State (2017), and Florida (2018-2021).
Last week, Oklahoma State made the decision to let go of their defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo and offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn. There was also a public negotiation between longtime head coach Mike Gundy and the university, which ultimately resulted in Gundy remaining as the Cowboys' head coach.
In 2024, Oklahoma State had a disappointing season with a record of 3-9 and finishing last in the Big 12 with a 0-9 record. This was Gundy's first losing season since his first year as head coach in 2005.
Gundy currently holds the record for most coaching wins in the history of the university with 169.
