'North Carolina's Bill Belichick Declines Invitation to Appear on 'Hard Knocks''
According to a spokesperson from NFL Media, Bill Belichick's North Carolina program will not be the main focus on HBO's upcoming offseason edition of "Hard Knocks," as reported by CBS Sports on Tuesday.
This comes after previous reports last week that NFL Films would feature Belichick and the Tar Heels, but there were rumors that some league owners were not pleased with the idea of showcasing Belichick on the NFL-owned platform.
An NFL Media spokesperson told CBS Sports, "NFL Films had discussions with Coach Belichick and UNC about appearing on Hard Knocks this offseason but couldn't reach an agreement."
The decision to turn to Belichick, who has been an NFL head coach for 29 seasons with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, was made after no NFL team agreed to participate, according to a report from Front Office Sports on Friday.
Last season, the New York Giants were featured on the show, and it was the filmed conversations between general manager Joe Schoen and the future of free-agent running back Saquon Barkley that reportedly caused other teams to decline the opportunity.
Barkley ended up signing with NFC East rival Philadelphia and led the Eagles to a Super Bowl LIX victory last month in New Orleans. In the regular season, he gained 2,283 yards from scrimmage and scored 15 touchdowns.
Barkley also broke the NFL single-season rushing record, including the postseason, with 2,504 yards, surpassing Terrell Davis' record from 1998.
Despite winning six Super Bowl titles with the Patriots, Belichick has never made an appearance on "Hard Knocks."
