Nick Saban, who retired a year ago, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December as part of a class of 22.

Saban, a seven-time national champion, stepped down from his position at Alabama in January and is eligible for immediate induction due to meeting the age requirement of over 70.

Also selected in his first year of eligibility is former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. Meyer, a three-time national champion, last coached in 2018 and won two national titles at Florida before leading Ohio State to their own championship. He is eligible three years after his most recent coaching job with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.

The class also includes former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata from Oregon, and running backs Steve Slaton from West Virginia and Montee Ball from Wisconsin. Other notable members include former FCS Defensive Player of the Year Michael Strahan, Tennessee defensive tackle John Henderson, and Texas safety Michael Huff.

Strahan, who played at Texas Southern University, was the top defensive player in the FCS when it was known as I-AA. He still holds the school's records for single-season sacks and career sacks.

To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, players must have been out of college for at least a decade and have been recognized as an All-American during their playing days.

Saban had successful coaching stints at LSU, Toledo, and Michigan State before spending 17 seasons at Alabama and posting an overall record of 206-29. He won five national titles with the Crimson Tide and two BCS national championships at LSU. Saban also led Alabama to 11 SEC Championship Game wins.

Vick led Virginia Tech to their only national championship game appearance in 1999, while Ball set the NCAA record for total touchdowns and is the only player to rush for 100 or more yards in three consecutive Rose Bowl games. Slaton was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2006 and helped West Virginia achieve a 33-5 record during his time there.
