NC State Quarterback Grayson McCall Sustains Injury and Leaves Match Against Louisiana Tech
The starting quarterback for North Carolina State, Grayson McCall, left the game in the second quarter due to an undisclosed injury. He was quickly declared out for the rest of the game against Louisiana Tech.
McCall was hit by Louisiana Tech's linebacker Zach Zimos during a blitz with just over 5 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter. He was slow to get up and eventually walked off the field after an incomplete pass. He then went to the locker room with team trainers.
McCall has a history of concussions, including one that ended his season last year while playing for Coastal Carolina. He was hospitalized after that injury, which occurred on October 21st against Arkansas State.
Before exiting the game, McCall had completed 9 of 13 passes for 54 yards and rushed four times for 22 yards. Freshman C.J. Bailey took over as quarterback for the rest of the game.
After McCall's injury, NC State kicked a field goal to take a 6-0 lead. However, Louisiana Tech scored 17 unanswered points in the final 2:41 of the quarter to take a 17-6 lead at halftime.
NC State managed to close the gap to 17-13 with a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown by DK Kaufman early in the third quarter.
McCall was a standout player in the Sun Belt conference for four seasons at Coastal Carolina, earning the Player of the Year award three times. He transferred to NC State after last season.
