Michigan's 18th Ranked Team Announces Alex Orji as Starting Quarterback

Michigan's 18th-ranked team announces switch, appoints Alex Orji as starting quarterback

No. 18 Michigan has opted for a new starting quarterback for their Big Ten opener against Southern California this Saturday in Ann Arbor.

On Monday, head coach Sherrone Moore announced that Alex Ojri will take the reins for the Wolverines (2-1) against the No. 11 Trojans (2-0). Ojri stepped in for Davis Warren in their 28-18 victory over Arkansas State last weekend.

Moore expressed his enthusiasm for Ojri, stating, "I know he's eager to get out there."

Warren threw three interceptions against the Red Wolves before being replaced. Ojri, on the other hand, completed 2 of 4 passes for 12 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 27 yards on three carries.

"Warren was playing well, but turnovers are unacceptable," Moore explained. "Ojri came in and did a solid job, aside from one missed throw. He also managed the offense effectively. We will move forward with him as our starter."

Michigan currently ranks 121st in passing offense in the FBS, averaging just 153 yards per game. They also have the second-highest number of interceptions in the nation, largely due to Warren's six. Warren has thrown for 444 yards and two touchdowns.

In contrast, Ojri has only attempted seven passes in his three seasons at Michigan, appearing in 12 games. He has also rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries.
