Michigan CB Will Johnson to be Absent from Oregon Match, According to Reports
Michigan's defense will be missing a key player in their matchup against top-ranked Oregon on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. According to reports from CBS Sports/247 Sports and ESPN, cornerback Will Johnson will be sidelined due to an injury.
Johnson sustained the injury during the Wolverines' 21-7 loss to then-No. 22 Illinois on October 19 and did not play in their victory over Michigan State last week.
The injury is said to be to his lower leg, with CBS Sports reporting that Johnson is dealing with a foot issue.
When asked about Johnson's status on Monday, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore stated, "He will definitely play again this season. We will see how he progresses this week and what he is able to do. We will leave it up to the doctors to handle that... Will has no intention of giving up or sitting out. If he is able to play, he will do so without hesitation. I have no doubt that he will be back on the field with his teammates at some point this season."
Moore's comments were in response to speculation that Johnson may choose to end his college career early and focus on the NFL Draft. In ESPN's latest 2025 draft rankings, Michigan's defensive tackle Mason Graham is listed as the top prospect, with Johnson following closely behind at No. 2.
In the five games he has played this season, Johnson has recorded 12 tackles, three passes defensed, and two interceptions (both of which were returned for touchdowns).
The defending national champions, Michigan, currently hold a record of 5-3 (3-2 in the Big Ten) as they prepare to face off against Oregon (8-0, 5-0).
