"Georgia Wide Receiver Rodarius 'Rara' Thomas Taken into Custody for Domestic Violence Allegations"

"Family Violence Charges Lead to Arrest of Georgia Wide Receiver Rodarius 'Rara' Thomas"

Georgia wide receiver Rodarius \"Rara\" Thomas was taken into custody early Friday on a felony charge of mistreatment of children in a family setting and two misdemeanor counts of physical violence in a family setting.

According to records from the Athens-Clarke County Jail in Athens, Ga., Thomas was arrested at 3:20 a.m. He was not granted bail.

In Georgia, the term \"family violence\" is used similarly to the term \"domestic violence\" in other states.

This is the second time the Eufaula, Ala., native has been detained for family violence.

In January 2023, Thomas faced charges of unlawfully restraining and physically harming a woman in a University of Georgia dorm. ESPN, which reviewed an arrest warrant, reported that Thomas blocked the woman's exit and told her she could not leave, and also caused bruises to her body.

Thomas successfully completed a program before trial to have these charges dropped in March 2023. The Athletic reported that he was limited in Georgia's spring practice as a disciplinary measure.

Georgia officials were informed of his most recent arrest.

\"This is an ongoing legal matter. We will not be making any further statements at this time,\" stated Steven Drummond, Georgia's associate athletic director for strategic communications, to The Athletic.

The 21-year-old spent two years at Mississippi State before transferring to Georgia in 2023. In 11 games (eight starts) for Georgia last season, he recorded 23 receptions for 383 yards and one touchdown.

With the departure of standout tight end Brock Bowers and receiver Ladd McConkey to the NFL, Thomas was expected to have a significant role in Georgia's passing game.
