Former NFL assistant Rob Ryan joins USC coaching staff
Rob Ryan has departed from the NFL to join the University of Southern California as its new assistant head coach for defense and linebackers, as announced by the school on Saturday.
At the age of 62, Ryan has spent 24 out of his 35 years of coaching in the NFL. His most recent role was as a senior defensive assistant for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2022-24.
\"Rob Ryan is a highly accomplished defensive coach in the NFL,\" stated USC head coach Lincoln Riley. \"With over 20 years of experience in the league, he will bring valuable expertise to our staff as we continue to progress here at USC. He has mentored some of the top players in the NFL, including multiple Hall of Famers and All-Pro selections. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Ryan and his family to our program.\"
The son of Buddy Ryan and twin brother of Rex, Rob Ryan's last college coaching job was in 1999 when he served as the defensive coordinator for Oklahoma State.
He will be taking over for Matt Entz, who was the Trojans' assistant head coach for defense and linebackers last season. Entz recently accepted the head coaching position at Fresno State.
