"Florida Donors Fundraise to Purchase Contract of Billy Napier"

Article: Florida donors gather funds to purchase contract of Billy Napier

According to USA Today, supporters in Florida have gathered enough funds to purchase the contract of football coach Billy Napier.

The Gators suffered a 33-20 defeat at home to Texas A&M in Gainesville on Saturday, causing many home fans to leave before the end of the third quarter.

As reported by USA Today, if Florida decides to terminate Napier's contract, they would owe him approximately $26 million. However, this amount may be reduced due to an ongoing NCAA investigation into the recruitment of Jaden Rashada and Napier's involvement.

Florida's season began with a 41-17 loss to rival Miami, but they bounced back with a 45-7 victory over FCS program Samford.

In their last seven games against power-conference opponents, the Gators have suffered seven consecutive defeats and have allowed an average of 37.9 points per game while scoring only 24.9.

Napier was hired by Florida before the 2022 season and has a record of 12-16 so far.

Now 45 years old, Napier was considered a promising young coach after four successful seasons at Louisiana, where he had a 40-12 record and was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year twice. His team finished the 2020 season ranked No. 15 in the nation and No. 16 the following season.

In his first two seasons at Florida, Napier's teams have had records of 6-7 and 5-7, respectively, with a 3-5 record in the Southeastern Conference each year. In 2022, they were eligible for a bowl game but lost 30-3 to Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
