'EA Sports' College Football 25 breaks sales record'
EA Sports has successfully relaunched its college football franchise, with College Football 25 becoming the top-selling sports game ever released in the US market.
According to Circana video game sales data from November, the game surpassed the previous record set by 2K Sports' NBA 2K21. It has also made its way into the top 50 best-selling tracked video games of all time and is currently the best-selling game of 2024 across all genres, beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
After an 11-year break, the game returned on July 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox One. In the era of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), the game now features players' names and numbers.

EA Sports extended offers to over 14,000 players on FBS teams, with each player who opted in receiving a one-time payment of $600 and a copy of the game.
According to Circana executive director of video games, Mat Piscatella, "EA Sports College Football 25 was highly anticipated before its launch, but its success was uncertain. However, once initial sales were reported, it became clear that it had a chance to become the top seller. The question then became when it would achieve this, and it finally did in November."
