Top-ranked Texas suffered a major blow as head coach Steve Sarkisian announced on Monday that safety Derek Williams will be out for the remainder of the season.

The talented sophomore will have to undergo surgery for a lower-body injury he sustained during the team's victory over Oklahoma on Saturday.

Williams was hurt while covering a kickoff at the start of the second half, but not before making a big play in the second quarter by forcing and recovering a fumble from Sooners' running back Taylor Tatum.

Prior to his injury, Williams had already missed two games due to a hamstring injury. In the four games he played, he recorded 11 tackles and one interception.

Last season, Williams had an impressive 42 tackles and two passes defensed in 13 games.

Unfortunately, this injury comes at a crucial time for the undefeated Longhorns (6-0, 2-0 SEC) as they prepare to face No. 5 Georgia (5-1, 3-1) at home on Saturday.
