Deion Sanders refutes rumors of departure from Colorado
Given his accomplishments this year as the head coach of Colorado, it's not surprising that Deion Sanders has been linked to other coaching opportunities, including in the NFL. However, Sanders made it clear on Tuesday that he has no plans to leave the Buffaloes.
"I am content where I am," Sanders told reporters. "I have my kickstand down. Do you know what a kickstand is? It means I am at rest. I am happy, I am excited, and I am enthusiastic about my current position. I truly love it here."
The No. 16 Buffaloes have an 8-2 record, already surpassing last season's 4-8 finish, which was Sanders' first year as head coach.
After the 2022 season, Sanders signed a five-year contract worth $29.5 million with Colorado. This came after the team fired Karl Dorrell midseason and only won one game.
Currently, the Buffaloes have a 6-1 record in the conference and are just two wins away from competing in the Big 12 title game. They are also pushing for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
This success has led to speculation that Sanders could fill one of the many coaching vacancies, including in the NFL. Former Dallas Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin has even suggested that Sanders could end up in Dallas if the team decides to part ways with current coach Mike McCarthy.
However, Sanders spoke highly of his young players and is confident that Colorado's success will continue, even if key players like Heisman Trophy candidates Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, who is Deion's son, leave for the NFL after this season.
"It speaks volumes about our plans and the stability we have here," Sanders said. "We are not going anywhere. We are here to stay."
Tied for first place in the Big 12 with BYU, Colorado will face Kansas, who has a 4-6 record, on Saturday and will finish the season by hosting Oklahoma State, who has a 3-7 record.
