"Coverage Confirmed: Deion Sanders' Sons, Shedeur and Travis Hunter, Guaranteed for Bowl Game"
According to Deion Sanders, the coach of Colorado, Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be financially protected from potential injuries during Saturday's Alamo Bowl against BYU.
On Monday, the coach confirmed that the school has taken out disability insurance policies for the two players, who are both expected to be top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders stated at a press conference in San Antonio, "We have two players who will most likely be the first two picks in the NFL Draft. They have received the highest amount of coverage ever seen in college football...far surpassing any other player in the game."
Typically, high-caliber players like Sanders and Hunter choose to skip non-playoff bowl games in order to avoid the risk of injury and potential loss of income as top draft picks. The first pick in the 2025 draft could receive a four-year contract worth approximately $40 million.
A spokesperson for Colorado's athletic department confirmed to Front Office Sports that several players on the team have insurance for the game, but did not disclose specific costs or benefits.
On Saturday, No. 23 Colorado (9-3) will face off against No. 17 BYU (10-2) at the Alamodome.
Shedeur Sanders has an impressive record this season, completing 74.2% of his passes for 3,926 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions.
Hunter, who plays both offense and defense for the team, was named the Heisman winner earlier this month. He has 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns as a wide receiver, and has also recorded four interceptions, 11 passes defensed, and 31 tackles as a cornerback.
