Central Michigan University and former University of Florida head coach Jim McElwain has confirmed that this will be his final season coaching on the sidelines.

The Chippewas (4-7, 2-5 MAC) have one remaining game on November 30th against Northern Illinois. McElwain will continue in his role until a new head coach is hired.

In a statement, McElwain expressed his gratitude to his wife Karen and all the players, coaches, and support staff he has worked with throughout his football journey.

According to ESPN, McElwain made this decision independently without any influence from the school administration.

CBS previously reported that the NCAA is investigating why notorious Michigan sign-stealer Connor Stalions was allegedly on CMU's sideline during their 2023 season opener against Michigan State.

Dennis Dodd of CBS stated, "The NCAA is looking into whether McElwain played a role in allowing Stalions on the sideline during the Chippewas' game against Michigan State."

McElwain will eventually transition into a new role as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director.

In his six seasons at CMU, McElwain has a record of 33-35 and led the Chippewas to a bowl victory in 2021.

Overall, he has a record of 77-63 in 12 seasons at Colorado State (2012-2014), Florida (2015-2017), and CMU. He has a lifetime record of 3-2 in bowl games.
