"AP Top 25 Poll: Texas Takes Top Spot, Georgia Ranks Second"
Texas has claimed the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll, displacing Georgia for the first time since 2008. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a one-point victory on Saturday.
In a dominant performance, the Longhorns defeated UTSA 56-7 with Arch Manning filling in for injured star quarterback Quinn Ewers and contributing five touchdowns.
Texas received 35 first-place votes, surpassing Georgia by 12. The Bulldogs had held the No. 1 ranking since the preseason poll, but struggled in a 13-12 win over Kentucky. Since 2021, Georgia has held the top spot for 39 appearances.
The rest of the top five - Ohio State, Alabama, and Ole Miss - remained unchanged, while Tennessee climbed to No. 6 and Missouri dropped to No. 7.
Miami rose two spots to No. 8, while Oregon held steady at No. 9 and Penn State fell to No. 10.
Similar to last week, the SEC dominated with six of the top seven spots in the poll. The conference boasts nine teams in the Top 25, followed by seven from the Big Ten.
Boston College's stint in the Top 25 was short-lived as they fell to Missouri, and Arizona also dropped out of the rankings after a loss to Kansas State.
Illinois makes their first appearance this season at No. 24, with Texas A&M returning to the rankings at No. 25 after a road win against Florida.
