Minnesota's Darius Taylor, who missed the season opener due to a leg injury, is set to start against Rhode Island this Saturday, according to multiple reports.

Last year as a freshman, Taylor had an impressive performance for the Golden Gophers, rushing for 799 yards and scoring five touchdowns in only six games. However, he was sidelined for seven games due to a hamstring injury.

His average of 133.2 rushing yards per game would have led the nation, but he did not have enough games to qualify.

Taylor's standout games included rushing for 193 yards against Eastern Michigan, 138 yards at North Carolina, 198 yards at Northwestern, and ending the season with 208 yards in a 30-24 victory over Bowling Green in the Quick Lane Bowl.

In their season opener, Minnesota (0-1) suffered a close 19-17 loss to North Carolina on August 29 in Minneapolis. Marcus Major led the Gophers with 20 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown in Taylor's absence.
