Errors, infractions, and unsuccessful execution are causing Alabama to fall on the unfavorable side of the delicate line between triumph and defeat in the SEC.

This is the perspective of first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, who stated on Monday that the team is reacting like a unit that "strives for greatness" following their loss to Tennessee.

"Having two losses now, we are trying to find a way to play a complete game as a team," DeBoer explained. "There have been moments throughout the season where we have played well together. However, when we suffer losses, those moments are magnified. We must examine them more closely. As a team, we must perform better. That is what distinguishes great teams."

DeBoer emphasized the importance of awareness and intensity outside of game day in his message to the Crimson Tide as they prepare to face Missouri (6-1) at home. He also stated that the coaching staff is taking a collaborative "solution-oriented" approach this week. Coaches will also stress to players the significance of not allowing the opinions of others to affect their own thoughts.

"We need to be more emotionally disciplined in all aspects," DeBoer stated.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe continues to face public criticism. He has thrown four interceptions, two of which were in the game against Tennessee and two in the close win against South Carolina. He was also sacked a total of seven times in the past two games. In 2023, he threw a total of six interceptions.

When asked about Milroe's progress in learning a new offensive scheme, DeBoer stated that he is "comfortable with everything we ask of him." However, he also acknowledged the need for the team to support Milroe more.

Missouri has a record of 17-3 since the start of the 2023 season, but they have not yet faced Milroe.

Offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan stated that there are no internal discussions about concerns regarding Milroe's performance and confidence.

"Jalen is an extremely confident player. I have no concerns about that at all. His preparation gives him that confidence," Sheridan said.

DeBoer mentioned that almost every player on the roster is dealing with minor injuries, including Milroe. However, he assured that Milroe will be on the field for Alabama this week.

In close games and losses, one side of the ball or one aspect of the team has been weaker than others. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack stated that the Crimson Tide can become closer as a team by learning from in-game and post-game challenges, such as the loss to Tennessee.

"That's the secret to success, right? How do we play as a team?" Wommack said. "There are no excuses. The standard is the standard. These are some of the obstacles that we must overcome and grow from as a football team."
