Xavier F Zach Freemantle sidelined indefinitely due to lower-body ailment
Xavier's top scorer Zach Freemantle sustained a lower-body injury during Saturday's game against Cincinnati and will be sidelined indefinitely, according to an announcement from the team on Monday.
Freemantle returned for his final season of college basketball after sitting out the end of the 2022-23 season and the entire 2023-24 season due to foot surgeries.
In the 11 games he has played this season, Freemantle has been averaging a career-high 16.9 points, along with 7.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals.
Throughout his 116-game career (89 starts), Freemantle has maintained an average of 12.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, with an impressive 51.2 field goal percentage.
Xavier (8-3) was previously ranked in the AP Top 25 poll this season, but has recently suffered three losses in their last five games, including a 68-65 defeat against rival Cincinnati on Saturday. The team will face off against No. 11 UConn on Wednesday to kick off their Big East conference play.
