Khalif Battle tallied all 19 of his points in the latter half as the No. 6 Gonzaga Bulldogs narrowly avoided an upset, prevailing over the Arizona State Sun Devils 88-80 in a nonconference matchup in Spokane, Washington on Sunday.

Braden Huff came off the bench and contributed 21 points for the Bulldogs (2-0). Guard Ryan Nembhard recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists, while Michael Ajayi grabbed nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Nolan Hickman and Graham Ike each chipped in nine points.

Basheer Jihad led the Sun Devils (2-1) with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Alston Mason added 19 points and BJ Freeman had 12. Freshman Jayden Quaintance, the youngest player in college basketball at 17 years old, scored nine points in the first half but did not attempt a shot in the second before fouling out in the final minute.

Gonzaga shot 50 percent from the field (31 of 62), went 8-of-24 from beyond the arc, and dominated in bench scoring (36-19) and fastbreak points (19-9). ASU shot 47.6 percent (30 of 63) from the floor and was 9 of 29 from 3-point range.

No. 15 Creighton 96, Fairleigh Dickinson 70

Ryan Kalkbrenner led the Bluejays to victory with 24 points, six rebounds, and three blocks against the Knights in Omaha, Nebraska.

The senior center made an impressive 9 of 10 shots from the field and has now converted 29 of 32 field-goal attempts through two games. Steven Ashworth added 15 points, nine assists, and five rebounds, connecting on 5 of 8 3-point attempts. Jamiya Neal contributed 13 points and five rebounds, while Pop Isaacs had 12 points. Jackson McAndrew came off the bench and added 13 points for the Bluejays (2-0).

Terrence Brown led FDU (1-2) with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Bismark Nsiah and Dylan Jones each had 12 points for the Knights.

No. 17 Indiana 90, Eastern Illinois 55

Mackenzie Mgbako led the Hoosiers with 18 points as they dominated the Panthers in the second half to secure a convincing victory in Bloomington, Indiana.

Malik Reneau and Oumar Ballo also had strong performances for the Hoosiers (2-0), each contributing 17 points. Bryson Tucker came off the bench and added 12 points. Indiana shot an impressive 61.3 percent from the field, including 64.7 percent in the second half, and recorded 26 assists on 38 made baskets.

Nakyel Shelton led Eastern Illinois (1-2) with 17 points, 15 of which came in the first half. This was the Panthers' second lopsided loss of the week against a Big Ten opponent, as they were also defeated by Illinois 112-67 in their season opener on Monday.
