Hunter Dickinson scored a crucial layup with 1:17 remaining to break the tie and secure a 92-89 victory for No. 1 Kansas over No. 9 North Carolina in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, despite squandering a 20-point lead.
The Jayhawks (2-0) were able to bounce back largely due to the efforts of Dickinson, who played the final 3:28 of the game despite being in foul trouble. He finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Zeke Mayo led the Jayhawks in scoring with 21 points, followed by KJ Adams Jr. with 14 points, AJ Storr with 13 points, and Dajuan Harris Jr. with 10 points.
Seth Trimble led the Tar Heels (1-1) with 19 points, while RJ Davis added 16 points and Cadeau, who shot 3-for-11, had 12 points and seven assists. Jae'Lyn Withers contributed 11 points and nine rebounds, while Ian Jackson and Ven-Allen Lubin each scored 10 points.
This was the first matchup between these two teams since Kansas overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat North Carolina in the 2022 national championship.

No. 18 Marquette (82) pulled away late to defeat George Mason (63) with a combined 51 points from David Joplin (27 points) and Kam Jones (24 points).
No. 19 Texas (90) had a balanced attack with Tre Johnson scoring 28 points to defeat Houston Christian (59).
No. 20 Cincinnati (83) played without two key players but still managed to defeat Morehead State (56) with five players scoring in double figures.
New Mexico (72) never trailed against No. 22 UCLA (64) with Nelly Junior Joseph leading the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
No. 24 Ole Miss (66) overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat Grambling State (64), with Dre Davis scoring 13 points and Jaylen Murray hitting crucial free throws in the final seconds.
