Pittsburgh University renews contract of coach Jeff Capel until 2029-30 season

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him at the university until the end of the 2029-30 season. This was announced on Wednesday.

Capel, who is 49 years old, led the Panthers to two consecutive 20-win seasons, with a record of 24-12 in 2022-23 and 22-11 last season. Despite being predicted to finish 14th in the league during the preseason, the team made it to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, earning Capel the title of Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year.

I am grateful for their support as we work towards building a successful Pitt Men's Basketball program that competes for championships at both the conference and national level every year,\" said Capel. \"Pittsburgh is a fantastic sports city with incredible people, and we are thankful for the unwavering support of our passionate fans. We will continue to give our all as we represent Pitt on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.\"

In his six years at Pitt, Capel has achieved a record of 97-92. He previously served as the head coach at VCU and Oklahoma.
