Kansas secures commitment from highly-ranked guard Darryn Peterson for 2025 season
Highly-touted prospect Darryn Peterson, a five-star recruit and the top guard in the Class of 2025, has officially committed to the University of Kansas.
The 6-foot-5 player from Ohio cited Kansas coach Bill Self as a major factor in his decision to join the Jayhawks.
In an interview with 247Sports on Friday night, Peterson praised Self's drive and determination, stating, "His sense of urgency really stood out to me. As a legend, it would be easy for him to become complacent and relax, but he told me that he still wants more and he's still hungry. That's my mindset as well. I may have a name and recognition, but I want to achieve even more."
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Peterson is ranked as the third best player in the 2025 class. He is known for his speed and athleticism, and is excited for the opportunity to showcase his skills as a playmaker.
Peterson shared that Self envisions him playing the point guard position and making plays for both himself and his teammates. "His pitch was for me to initiate the offense and be the one to finish it," Peterson explained.
Before joining Kansas, Peterson will complete his senior year at Napa Prolific Prep in California.
"I'm relieved to have made my decision and can now focus on my senior year and what I need to do," Peterson said. "To all the fans, thank you for your support and expect to see a show next year in Lawrence. Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk!"
In addition to Kansas, Peterson also took official visits to Ohio State, Kansas State, and Southern California.
