Donovan Dent, highly regarded from New Mexico, to transfer to UCLA

Donovan Dent, the recipient of the Mountain West Player of the Year accolade while playing for New Mexico this year, has decided to transfer to UCLA.

According to the 247Sports transfer portal listing, the move was confirmed on Saturday. He was ranked as the second-best player in the portal.

Dent led the Mountain West conference with an average of 20.4 points and also contributed 6.4 assists. He maintained a 49 percent field goal percentage and a 40.9 percent success rate from beyond the arc.

After New Mexico's 71-63 loss to No. 2 seed Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Dent announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.

This marks a return to his hometown for Dent, who previously attended Centennial High School in Corona, located approximately 65 miles from UCLA's campus. In high school, 247Sports ranked him as the 20th best point guard in the nation in the class of 2022.

Over the course of three seasons with New Mexico, Dent appeared in 104 games (72 starts) and scored a total of 1,400 points, averaging 13.5 points per game.
