"Dick Vitale Announces He is Cancer-Free Once More"
Esteemed ESPN college basketball commentator Dick Vitale declared on Thursday that he has been declared cancer-free following his fourth cancer diagnosis in four years.
Vitale, who is 85 years old, disclosed in June that he required surgery to treat lymph node cancer, only six months after successfully overcoming his previous cancer diagnosis.
\"SANTA CLAUS came early as Dr Rick Brown called & said that my PET SCAN at 7 AM came back CLEAN OF CANCER!\" Vitale announced on X.
A beloved and well-respected figure in the world of sports, Vitale has not been on air for a college basketball broadcast since 2022.
He was diagnosed with both melanoma and lymphoma in 2021. After revealing he was cancer-free in 2022, he received a diagnosis of laryngeal (vocal cord) cancer in 2023. However, he announced in December of last year that he had been given a clean bill of health.
A former head coach for Detroit Mercy and the NBA's Detroit Pistons, Vitale made his debut as a commentator for ESPN's first college basketball broadcast in the company's inaugural year in 1979.
