Central Michigan terminated the employment of coach Tony Barbee on Thursday after four years.

The Chippewas had a record of 14-17 this season and a total of 49-75 during Barbee's tenure.

Barbee, who is 53 years old, only had one successful season at Central Michigan, achieving a record of 18-14 during the 2023-24 season.

"In light of recent events, I have decided that it is necessary for us to take a different approach with the leadership of our men's basketball program," stated athletic director Amy Folan in a press release. "I would like to express my gratitude to Tony for his commitment and contributions during his time in Mount Pleasant. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

"I am confident that we will attract a highly qualified pool of candidates during our search for a new head coach. This is an incredible opportunity and we are certain that our community will support our next Chippewa men's basketball coach."

Barbee also had a record of 49-75 during his four-year tenure at Auburn from 2010-2014. Prior to that, he achieved a record of 82-52 at UTEP from 2006-2010, leading the Miners to a 26-7 record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament during the 2009-2010 season.
