Suns and Kevin Durant to Discuss $120M Contract Extension Following Season
Phoenix Suns proprietor Mat Ishbia intends to propose a $120 million expansion to Kevin Durant this summer, following their decision to bypass the one-year agreement in July.
According to Ishbia, both parties have expressed interest in a deal that would bring Durant closer to his goal of retiring with the franchise, where he has been a 14-time NBA All-Star.
\"(Durant) has a great affinity for Phoenix, and we are delighted to have him here,\" Ishbia stated to ESPN. \"He has had an incredible start to the season, and is one of the top contenders for MVP. We expect Kevin to sign an extension and remain with us for the long haul. We hope he finishes his career here in Phoenix. Due to NBA regulations, a two-year extension could not be signed last summer. Therefore, we plan to discuss and finalize it after the season.\"
\"Kevin wants to stay here, and we want him here. There has never been any indication of anything else.\"
Durant's current contract expires after the 2025-26 season. His All-Star teammate, Devin Booker, recently signed a four-year, $220 million extension to stay with the Suns.
Durant has been out of the Suns' lineup for the past six games due to a calf injury. The team has struggled without him, going 1-5 after starting the season 8-1.
At 36 years old, Durant is averaging 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game this season.
