"Release of NBA Schedule: Celtics, Defending Champions, to Face Knicks in Opening Game"
The 18th championship banner of the Boston Celtics will be raised on Oct. 22 as they prepare to face off against the New York Knicks in the first game of the 2024-25 NBA season.
The NBA has released the complete schedule for the regular season, following the announcement of the Emirates NBA Cup (in-season tournament) schedule earlier this week.
The first night of the season will feature a doubleheader, beginning with the Boston-New York game, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves.
For the 26th consecutive season, the Lakers will be a highlight on Christmas Day as they face the Golden State Warriors. They will also be a popular team to watch throughout the season, with 39 national television appearances, including 11 games on TNT, 10 games on ESPN, six games on ABC, and 12 games on NBA TV.
On Oct. 23, the Philadelphia 76ers will debut their new Big Three, featuring Paul George alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks.
That same night, the Los Angeles Clippers will open their new home arena against the Phoenix Suns. George will face his former team, the Clippers, just two weeks later when the Sixers visit Los Angeles on Nov. 6.
The Dallas Mavericks will also showcase their new Big Three, with the addition of Klay Thompson to play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Their season opener will be on Oct. 24 at home against the San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama.
As previously announced, Thompson will face his former team, the Warriors, on Nov. 12 in San Francisco as part of the group stage of the NBA Cup.
In addition to the Lakers-Warriors matchup, the NBA has scheduled a lineup of five nationally televised games, including Spurs-Knicks, Timberwolves-Mavericks, 76ers-Celtics, and Nuggets-Suns, which will follow a highly anticipated duel between Steph Curry and LeBron James.
The All-Star Weekend will take place from Feb. 14-16 in San Francisco, shortly after the Feb. 6 trade deadline. The regular season will conclude on April 13.
