Philadelphia's star player, Paul George, suffered a hyperextended left knee during the second quarter of the 76ers' preseason win against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.

George, who was guarding Atlanta's Jalen Johnson at the time, had to leave the game with 8:09 left in the first half. He did not return and finished the game with eight points in 12 minutes.

After the game, Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse expressed hope that George's injury was not serious and that he would be able to rejoin the team soon.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, George was seen walking around the locker room with a sleeve on his left knee and did not seem too worried about the injury. He was scheduled to receive treatment later that night.

George, who signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the Sixers this summer, was a major acquisition in free agency. He spent the last five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Last season, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in 74 games. He was also selected to the All-Star team for the ninth time in his career.

Throughout his career, George has averaged 20.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals in 867 games for the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Clippers.

The Sixers have two more preseason games before their regular season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on October 23.
