Philadelphia 76ers Forward Paul George (finger) Diagnosed with Tendon Damage
Philadelphia 76ers power forward Paul George is dealing with an injury to the extensor tendon on his left pinkie finger, as announced by the team just before their home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
The severity of the injury was discovered after George underwent an MRI and ultrasound. He was previously ruled out of the Lakers game after sustaining the injury during Saturday's 109-97 win against the Chicago Bulls.
George's condition will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.
\"I believe it's a day-to-day situation. We're relieved to know that it's not a long-term injury and nothing too serious,\" said 76ers coach Nick Nurse to reporters. \"They're working on finding the best way to get him back on the court as soon as possible.\"
This marks the 15th game George has missed this season due to various injuries. He is currently in the first year of a four-year, $212 million contract he signed as a free agent in the offseason.
At 34 years old, George is averaging 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in 30 games.
Star center Joel Embiid (left knee) is also out for the Lakers game and has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Sacramento Kings.
This will extend Embiid's absence to 13 games. The former league MVP has only played in 13 games this season and is averaging 24.4 points and 7.9 rebounds.
Nurse mentioned that Embiid did participate in some of Monday's practice.
\"He was doing some shooting beforehand,\" Nurse said. \"So, I think he's feeling better and making progress. We're hoping to have him back on the court soon.\"
The 76ers have a disappointing record of 17-27 going into the game against the Lakers.
