Tyrese Maxey scored 40 points and Paul George tallied 33 points, with both players sinking six 3-pointers, to lead the injury-plagued Philadelphia 76ers to a 121-108 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.
The return of Charlotte point guard LaMelo Ball, who had been out since November 27th due to a calf injury, was overshadowed by the 76ers' strong performance. Ball recorded 15 points and 11 assists.
Philadelphia, who recently lost center Joel Embiid and rookie guard Jared McCain to injuries, made 16 of 38 attempts from beyond the arc in their first game without them.
Despite Miles Bridges' 24 points, the Hornets suffered their 10th loss in 11 games.
Bulls 122, Raptors 121
Nikola Vucevic led the way with 24 points as the Chicago Bulls held on to defeat the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors made a late push, but fell just short with a last-second 3-pointer.
Coby White added 19 points for the Bulls, who have won two consecutive games. Josh Giddey contributed 11 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists before leaving the game with an ankle injury in the third quarter.
RJ Barrett and Gradey Dick combined for 59 points for the Raptors, who have now lost five straight games. Toronto's Jakob Poeltl also left the game in the fourth quarter with a groin injury.
Pistons 125, Heat 124 (OT)
Malik Beasley scored a season-high 28 points and Cade Cunningham recorded a triple-double as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Miami Heat in overtime.
Cunningham finished with 20 points, 18 assists, and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, who blew a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter. Ausar Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. also had strong performances, scoring 19 and 16 points respectively.
Jimmy Butler led the way for the Heat with 35 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists, but it wasn't enough to extend their four-game winning streak. Tyler Herro also had a solid outing with 23 points.
Cavaliers 130, Nets 101
Evan Mobley and Caris LeVert combined for 40 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers dominated the Brooklyn Nets in a 130-101 victory.
Cleveland took control of the game early and never looked back, leading by as many as 37 points. The Cavaliers now have the best start in team history with a record of 23-4 and have won 8 of their last 12 games.
Cameron Johnson led the Nets with 22 points, but Brooklyn struggled with turnovers, committing a season-high 22 which resulted in 34 points for Cleveland.
